Caesarean Scar defect or Isthmocele is a defect in the uterine scar of a woman who has previously undergone a caesarean section for delivery.
The woman presents with irregular spotting, midcycle bleeding, intermenstrual bleeding or brown discharge following periods, painful periods, painful intercourse or infertility.
Diagnosis is with the help of a transvaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopy.
Treatment can be done via laparoscopy when the defect in the uterus is exposed and then the margins are freshened and then re sutured.
